Cost of sale for window and door companies

Cost of sale is what a window and door company spends on marketing to win its orders, as a share of what those orders are worth. Eco Glaze Scotland, a window installer Nivoro Marketing runs Facebook ads for, sold £108,340 of jobs from £8,148.47 of ads between 21 June and 24 October 2026. That’s a cost of sale of about 7.5%, counting the ad spend only and none of our fee. You bring it down by counting it every week, branch by branch, and moving the money to the ads that sell.

The sum

How to work out your cost of sale

Take what you spent to win the orders and divide it by what those orders sold for, both from the same weeks. Here are three figures on public record, and what each one counts.

About 7.5% at Eco Glaze Scotland

£8,148.47 of our Facebook ads against £108,340 of jobs sold on Eco Glaze's own sales sheet, 21 June to 24 October 2026. Ad spend only: our fee isn't in it.

9%, from a lead seller

Leads 2 Trade, which sells leads to installers, reported in Glass Times in July 2023 that one customer, a large, regional installer, took £188,118 of business from £16,329 of its leads in June: a cost of sale of 9%.

11.2% at Safestyle

Safestyle's annual report for 2022 put its lead generation at £17.3m, 11.2% of its £154.3m revenue.

Say what's in the top line

Ours counts ad spend. The lead seller's counts what the installer paid for leads. Safestyle's counts what its accounts call lead generation. Put yours beside anyone's only once you know what both of them count.

How we bring cost of sale down

How we bring cost of sale down

Leads and clicks are costs until they turn into orders, so every change we make is judged on the orders.

Leads and clicks are costs until they turn into orders, so every change we make is judged on the orders.

Every sale traced back to its ad

Each enquiry is tied to the ad that brought it in, through your CRM, so the order lands on that ad's line.

Facebook told which leads bought

When a lead is booked, quoted or sold, that goes back to Facebook, so it looks for more people like the ones who bought.

The money behind the ads that sell

A cheap lead that never buys is the dearest lead on the account. Each week the budget moves to the ads with orders on their line.

A weekly scoreboard, branch by branch

Cost per lead, appointment and pitch every week, with your cost of sale branch by branch, so the branch where it's climbing shows that week, not at the month end.

The record

How Eco Glaze’s figure was counted

Every lead from our ads lands on a tab of its own in Eco Glaze’s sales sheet and is marked booked, quoted or sold as it moves. That tab is where the 26 sold jobs were counted, and the £8,148.47 is the ad account’s spend for the same dates. The whole account is written up, figure by figure, in the Eco Glaze Scotland case study.

We place a fractional CMO and marketing team with UK window and door companies doing £10m to £50m a year, and every tier comes with every enquiry chased, every sale traced back to its ad through your CRM, and that weekly scoreboard. Branch, for £10m to £15m a year in sales, is £8,000 a month. Region, for £15m to £30m, is £13,500. Group, for £30m to £50m, is £25,000. All plus VAT, with your ad spend paid direct. Our fee goes in your top line too. Here’s what each tier includes.

Questions

Questions on cost of sale

Is cost of sale the same as cost of sales in our accounts?

No. Cost of sales in your accounts covers the direct costs of the jobs, materials and fitting included. Cost of sale on this page is the marketing behind the orders.

Is cost of sale the same as cost per lead?

No. Cost per lead stops at the form. Cost of sale runs all the way to the signed order, so a cheap lead that never buys pushes it up.

How often should we work out cost of sale?

Every week, branch by branch, because that's how often the budget moves. A figure you see once a month tells you about a month that's already gone.

What's a good cost of sale for a double glazing company?

One lower than last month's, counted the same way. The figures on public record run from about 7.5% on Eco Glaze's ad spend to Safestyle's 11.2% of revenue on lead generation, and each one counts something different.
